How to migrate from Canny
in one afternoon

Eight steps: export your CSV, recreate your board, map statuses, swap the embed, redirect your links, tell your users, cancel Canny. Or send us the export and we'll migrate your board free.

⚡ 2-min setup + Free trial · zero-signup voting

Features.Vote is a feature voting tool with voting boards, public roadmaps and changelogs at flat pricing — $9/mo (Lite) or $29/mo (Growth), unlimited voters, no per-tracked-user fees. It is the only tool in this category with a native SwiftUI SDK for iOS, iPadOS & macOS and an MCP server so AI agents can manage your board. Voters don't need to sign up. 14-day free trial, no credit card.

The 8-Step Migration

1

Export your data from Canny

In Canny, go to Settings → Data export and download your posts as CSV (admins only). Do this first, before touching your plan — you keep a copy of every post, status and vote count regardless of what happens next.

2

Create your Features.Vote board

Sign up, name your project and your public board is live — about 2 minutes. The data model maps 1:1 to Canny's: posts, votes, statuses, comments and changelog entries all have direct equivalents.

3

Recreate your posts (three ways)

Manual: re-post your top ~20 requests — most boards follow a power law and the long tail rarely matters. API: loop over the CSV with our REST API (POST /v1/features). AI: connect our MCP server and ask Claude to read your CSV and recreate the posts for you. Or skip all three — send us the CSV and we'll do it free (see below).

4

Map your statuses

Canny's Open → pending, Under Review → under review, Planned / In Progress → in progress, Complete → done, Closed → rejected. Set each recreated post's status so your roadmap view is correct from day one.

5

Swap the embed in your product

Replace Canny's widget script or WebView with the Features.Vote widget (one script tag), or — if you're on iOS/macOS — add the native Swift SDK and drop VotingBoardView into your app. This is the step where mobile teams feel the upgrade: real SwiftUI views instead of a WebView.

6

Redirect your feedback links

Point your feedback URL (e.g. feedback.yourapp.com) at your new board — Features.Vote supports custom domains. Update links in your app footer, help center and email templates so old bookmarks land on the new board.

7

Announce the move to your users

Publish a changelog entry and (optionally) email your voters: where the new board lives, and that voting no longer requires an account — the single change that most increases participation after a Canny migration.

8

Cancel your Canny subscription

Once the new board is live and linked, downgrade or cancel in Canny's billing settings. If you're mid-cycle on an annual plan, ask their support about a prorated refund — and keep your CSV export either way.

Integration details live in the API docs, the iOS SDK page and the MCP server page.

What Transfers (and What Doesn't)
